Pull up a chair. The bookshelf is just getting started…

Books by Wynter Rowan

Stories with heart, animals with personality,
and probably a paw print somewhere on the page.

A note from the author

The Shelf Is Still Growing

Every author has to begin somewhere, and this bookshelf
is currently beginning with book number one.

As new books are finished, this page will become their
permanent home. You’ll be able to see covers, read about
each story, peek inside, find reader extras, and follow
links to wherever the books are available.

For now, there is still a little sawdust on the bookshelf.

BETWEEN THE COVERS

What I Want My Books to Feel Like

I want children to enjoy the story first.

The lesson should live inside the story rather than
feeling like somebody stopped the fun to give a lecture.

That means characters with personality, pictures worth
looking at twice, little moments of humor, and ideas
children can recognize from their own lives.

Ingredients I keep reaching for:

  • Warm stories
  • Animals who feel like real characters
  • Children who get to think and choose
  • Gentle humor
  • Colorful illustrations
  • Moments worth talking about afterward
  • Plenty of heart

Reserved for stories not written yet…

The Growing Bookshelf

One book may be the beginning, but I don’t expect it
to stay lonely forever.

There seems to be plenty of room for more.

KIND STORIES

More Animal Kindness Stories

Stories that help children notice animal body language,
boundaries, comfort, trust, and everyday opportunities
to choose kindness.

  • Dogs
  • Cats
  • Family pets
  • Everyday situations

NEW IDEAS

Characters Waiting Their Turn

There are always characters rattling around in my head,
waiting for a story to belong to.

Some of them are considerably more patient than others.

SOMEDAY

Whatever Comes Next

Not every future book has announced itself yet,
and I rather like leaving a little empty space
for surprises.

  • New stories
  • New characters
  • New art
  • New ideas

BEHIND
THE PAGES

Books Are Messier Than They Look

By the time a finished book reaches a reader,
all the crossed-out sentences, rejected sketches,
moved paragraphs, changed colors, revised characters,
and “what was I thinking?” moments have disappeared.

I think those messy middle parts are interesting.

That’s why I’ll share some of them on the blog.

Somewhere between idea and finished book:

  • Writing
  • Rewriting
  • Illustrating
  • Changing the illustration
  • Changing it again
  • Formatting
  • Proofreading
  • Finding the thing I missed while proofreading

KIND HANDS BOOKS

Where the Kindness Books Live

Books centered around children, animals, gentle choices,
and family resources also have their own home at
Kind Hands Books.

That site is where you’ll find the children’s-book side
of my work along with free printables and material for
parents, caregivers, teachers, and other grown-ups
helping children learn to treat animals kindly.

Two websites, two little desks:

  • WynterRowan.com
Author life, books, art, blog posts and whatever
is currently scattered across my creative desk.
  • KindHandsBooks.com
Children’s books, animal kindness, family resources
    and printables.

One day there will be buttons here…

Where Can I Find the Books?

When a book is available for purchase, this page will include
direct links showing you where to find it.

Until then, this little spot is holding the place.

AMAZON LINK COMING SOON

Thanks for stopping by the bookshelf.

I hope you’ll come back and see what finds its way onto
these shelves next.
