Hello from behind the desk
Hi, I’m Wynter
I’ve always been happiest when I’m making something.
A story. A painting. A design. A website. A new project
that sounded perfectly reasonable until I was halfway
through it.
Creativity has followed me through most of my life,
although the tools have changed quite a bit along the way.
These days, writing and books have become a bigger part
of the picture. They give me a place to bring together
so many things I love: storytelling, art, color,
imagination, humor, animals, and those small moments
that stay with us longer than we expect.

BY HAND
I’ve Always Made Things
Long before artificial intelligence could create an
illustration in seconds, I painted, drew, designed,
experimented, erased things, started again, and spent
entirely too long deciding whether a color was
slightly too blue.
I still love traditional art.
What has changed is the way I work. Digital tools
and AI-assisted illustration now let me experiment
faster, try more ideas, and keep the focus on
storytelling and creative direction.
I still care about the same things I always did:
composition, expression, color, character,
personality, and whether the finished piece
actually feels right.
Things that still make me ridiculously happy:
- A really good color combination
- A character expression that finally works
- Fresh paper and a good pen
- A book cover that suddenly comes together
- Turning an idea into something real
- Finding a better way to do something
Especially that last one.
BOOKS
So… Why Books?
Books turned out to be a very natural place for all
those creative pieces to meet.
Writing gives me the story.
Illustration gives the story a face.
Design gives it a home.
And sometimes a simple idea grows into an entire
little world before I realize what happened.
My first book projects have grown from something I
care about deeply: helping children understand
kindness toward animals through ordinary situations
they can actually recognize.
The book recipe, apparently:
- A story worth telling
- Characters with personality
- Pictures that add something
- A little humor
- A lot of heart
- Several rounds of “nope, that’s not right yet”
They were going to show up here eventually…
And Then There Are the Animals
DOGS
Always Nearby
Dogs have a way of working themselves into just about
everything around here: stories, pictures, conversations,
photographs, and the space directly underneath my chair.
Personal space is apparently optional.
CHARACTERS
Personality Matters
I love animals with expressions, quirks, opinions,
habits, and personalities.
The best animal characters don’t feel like props.
They feel like somebody.
KINDNESS
The Small Things Count
Being gentle with animals isn’t just one big lesson.
It’s hundreds of tiny choices made every day.

- Listen
- Give space
- Choose kindness
My Creative Path
It hasn’t exactly been a straight line.
Then again, the interesting paths usually aren’t.
Art came first.
Drawing, painting, color, design, and making
things with my hands.
Then came design and business.
Websites, products, branding, graphics,
stores, and more creative projects than
could probably fit on one desk.
Now books have joined the pile.
Writing and publishing have become another
way to bring words, art, design, and ideas
together.
A completely accurate diagram of my creative process:
- Have idea
- Get excited about idea
- Make idea much larger than originally planned
- Change three things
- Change them back
- Notice seventeen new things
- Eventually finish something
- Immediately have another idea
Works every time.

Odds, Ends & Little Things About Me
Creative weakness:
Beautiful paper, art supplies, fonts, and anything
that looks like it belongs on a writing desk.
Office atmosphere:
Books, computer screens, half-finished ideas,
and animals nearby.
Favorite projects:
The ones where writing, design, illustration,
and personality all get to mix together.
Creative habit:
Thinking of the next project while still working
on the current project.
Design opinion:
A website should be allowed to have personality.
Animal policy:
There is almost always room for another paw print.
